Jul 24 2004 4:49PM Iraq ready for talks on contracts with Russia - Zebari MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Mahmud Zebari said that his country is ready to hold consultations with Russia to outline ways to continue work on contracts previously signed between the two countries.

At a news conference after talks in Moscow on Saturday, Zebari said that he "discussed this issue with [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov, and agreed to continue contacts to appoint a person responsible for further work on these contracts, including those signed as part of the UN Oil for Food program."

The Iraqi provisional government "is committed to all obligations ever taken by Iraq," the minister said.

Commenting on security in Iraq, Zebari said that "as far as the hostage taking [of foreign citizens in Iraq] is concerned, we resolutely denounce these actions. Terrorist methods prove that the terrorists themselves are weak."

"I would like to call on all countries not to support terrorist actions [in Iraq]," he said.

Iraq hopes the problem of international terrorists who have entered the country will be resolved in the near future, Zebari said.
