The interesting thing about Bates' article is that he has Chomsky as arguing 
that people ought to vote for Kerry. While Bates seems to fudge over how 
many voters live in safe states, it seems that by the logic of the article 
people who live in Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, North 
Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Minnesota, South Dakota, 
Pennsylvania, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Florida (at least and not in this 
order necessarily) - if they are indeed interested in defeating Bush - have 
to vote for Kerry.
