It's a question of how the US Empire ends -- with a financial-restructuring whimper, or a current-account-imbalance bang. China is going to float the yuan in a few years, and that will be that -- all that cheap East Asian capital will find more stable and secure investment outlets. The danger with the Repugs in charge is that the reaction to the meltdown will trigger a regional nuclear war -- an invasion or attack on Iran, a social explosion in Pakistan, etc. The impending geopolitical trainwreck is so visible, it hurts.
