There's a great but horrifying book called Into That Darkness by a Hungarian-English journalist named Gitta Serelny, interviewed Franz Stangel, who was commandant of Treblinka, Sobibor, and before that head of the t-4 euthansia program. He did'd cackle manically as he had Jews and the disabled shuffled off to the gas chambers, he viewed it as sort of a job, something necessary but distasteful.

Didn't the Nazis make a point of trying to make sure that people who worked in the Vernichtungslaeger _not_ have psychological pathologies, so that they would be doing the work out of duty and not out of pleasure?

My great-granduncle was euthanized in the 1930s (mental illness). They told the family they were taking him to a special hospital where he could get the care he needed.

===== Nu, zayats, pogodi!
