[lbo-talk] geheimstadt politza

Why in the world would Cheney and his allies run the extreme risk of getting caught conducting the 9/11 attacks? If Cheney ordered the planes flown into the buildings, how would he imagine he wouldn't eventually be caught? If caught, how would he imagine his entire fortune and social network would not be smashed to bits, and his politics crushed and swept away in a tidal wave of democracy?

Why risk all that when you can sit back and have the attacks conducted by deniable, demonizable independent forces?

It's what they call "kranker scheiss."

Joseph Wanzala quoted someone from his circle of heavy breathers:

>Homeland Security in German is "geheimstadt politza," which during

>a "Gestapo" will make us safer?

I know some German, though I'm far from fluent. Homeland is "Heimat" or "Heimatland." Security is "Sicherheit." Security police is "Sicherheitspolizei." My dictionary doesn't include the word "Geheimstadt" but "geheim" means secret and "Stadt" is city. State is "Staat." The word "politza" is also missing from my dictionary; police is "Polizei."

And the abbreviation "Gestapo" comes from "Geheime Staatspolizei," which means secret state police.

If the author can't get simple words right, why should we believe anything else she writes?

Doug
