Charles Brown makes some good points here. Again, it calls my attention that
in some left circles there is this careful, almost polite and deferential
use of strong political terms. I remember a couple of years ago I went to a
United For Peace antiwar meeting and the moderator insisted that we shouldn't
use the term "anti-imperialist" because "it'd scare people" off! . Amazing.
During the last president`al campaign it was also suggested to avoid sounding
anti-religious for fears of alienating the faithful. At this rate a successful
campaign of stripping the left of its basic, long standing terminology will
be accomplished soon in the name of politeness.
In the meantime , a ruthless impolite right wing does not hesitate in using
their old rude shibboleths such as calling "communists", stalinists" on any
one on the left. Why can they, why can't us?
