Except by Olsen's logic, the Civil Rights movement shouldn't have happened, as has been pointed out by an author whose name escapes me at the moment.
Even Russell Hardin is letting go of the neoclassical econ./rat. choice approach to collective action, that shows how deep the backlash has become over the past decade or so.
