Funny you should mention that. Because the other side of absurd prices
for the rich is the expectation that beauty should be free. My daughter
has been in rehearsal for a ballet production of Hansel and Gretel for
six months. That's ten hours a week for 26 weeks + the normal other ten
hours of class and private lessons etc. This, so she can glide around
beautifully as if she was born in toe shoes. So we're talking about five
hundred hours of hard, sometimes painful work for a two hour
performance. Her pay: zero. The principal dancers will probably make
about $1/hour for their time and work.
A number of liberal, lefty, art-loving friends who wanted to come and see the performance were put off by the $18/ticket prices.
