Michael Perelman:

I have doubts about anything in the National Enquirer, but it is significant that the paper would write something so critical of him.

==========

It's sensational reputation aside, the National Enquirer

has a very good track record of accurately reporting on celebrity activities. They've been sued many times by angry celebs. Most of these lawsuits have failed because the embarrassing reports have been true.

So, as a harvester of accurate information about the famous, it's a surprisingly strong source (Mike Walker, the paper's most famous columnist, has often said that there's no need to fabricate because the powerful and the glamorous routinely provide more than enough real material for the paper to use).

This may be more significant than a casual glance (and easy dismissal of the source) suggests.
