Vietnam, RoK sign MoU on labour exports http://www.nhandan.com.vn/english/business/250706/business_vn.htm

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea on July 24 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the export of Vietnamese guest workers to the RoK. Signatories were Vietnamese Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Hang and RoK Minister of Labour Lee Sang-soo.

Under the MoU, each year Vietnam can send 15,000 applicants for jobs in the RoK. The applicants have to go through a test of the Korean language in Vietnam to make sure they can communicate during their three years working in the country. Workers employed will enjoy salary, insurances and overtime pay in case their employers ask them to do overtime work.

The MoU is signed based on an agreement signed in 2004 between the governments of the two countries on labour co-operation under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

Since the implementation of the EPS in 2004, Vietnam has sent nearly 13,000 workers to the RoK.

So far this year, as many as 4,000 Vietnamese workers have been sent to the RoK which intends to recruit 9,000 Vietnamese workers this year under the EPS.

Vietnam is one the ten countries that have taken part in the EPS programme with RoK
