I've never been to either place, but Yaroslavl (pop 600,000) has a McDonald's. But yeah in such provincial cities (and in Moscow for that matter) the fast food is mostly pirogi bought in a kiosk on the street. The difference is that Moscow is festooned with sushi restaurants, Italian pizzerias, TGI Fridays and so forth. I think there are at least 4 TGI Fridays in Moscow.
