That is indeed the story of very wide circulation - to the point of attaining the status of legend, at least in Oklahoma, where my family is from. (Odd how Americans of the Bible Belt so often turn thugs such as Dillinger or Bonnie and Clyde into heros.) No doubt, though, that examples of organized self help to stop foreclosures took place in rural areas during the Depression of the 1930s and possibly even during the farm crisis of the 1980s. SR
