Well. A former student of mine spent a couple years in prison (drug charges), ran one of the longest-lasting "alternate" newspapers in the u.s. (and showed himself to be a genius as an investigative reporter). Then went back to school & got his B.A. Then took the law school entrance exams & I believe got near to a record high score on them. Then graduated from UofI Law School with a straight-A average (first time ever at ILLinois) and got to give the valedictory address -- which he delivered from the point of view of an ex-convict: a third of the audience gave him a standing oration, the remainder sat stony-faced. I have a copy of the address around someplace. Last I heard he was the director of the Denver-Region of the ACLU. His father was a pathologist. Just googled him. You can find a lot by googling "Mark Silverstein ACLU Attorney."
