i was thinking that, maybe you hadn't read the introductory chapter where she talks about this issue? i think my book's packed away, but i'll stop at library today and pick up a copy. I can't remember exactly what she said, but I thought she did a really could job of wrestling with this issue. Of course, from what you say, it doesn't matter to you that she understand the moral issues involved. She did it anyway for her own self aggrandizement.
for me, I say: what's wrong with self aggrandizement. If i bothered to write a book (cold day in hell), i would sure as shit want some money for it, not to mention raving fans and offers of blow jobs after my book readings. Three cheers for self aggrandizement, I say!
