I'd like to make another point. In France and Spain, and I guess to some extent in Italy, fervent Catholicism is associated with the ancien regime and fascism (boo, hiss). In Poland, it is associated with Solidarity. In Ireland, I imagine, it is associated with Irish nationalism. So, the perception is very different, and accordingly so are the respect and influence enjoyed by the Church.
^^^ CB: On the original thread point, even the Pope has admitted the problem of Catholic priests who have sex with especially young Catholic boys. So, the high priests of this conservative religion are associated in many's minds _with_ homosexuality, not as against it.
Similarly, as homosexuality is associated to an extent with the high priests of the Black Baptist church, ministers and choirmasters, a second group who are the guardians of conservative religious values, in the Black community, could it be that, for example, Black rappers may be associating homosexuality with the _conservative_ values and morality of the Black Baptist church ? In other words, the original thread title may be backward in its assessment of the relationship between Black Baptist conservative morality and homosexuality, at least in actual practice :some Black Baptist preachers not practicing what they preach on this issue; and being observed in this by Black youth who then go on to become rappers.. The Proposition 8 vote may have been a vote against Black church real practices.
