Furthermore, your contributor's post is not excellent at all, but shares the same vicious loathing of commuting that motivates the Congestion Charge - rather suggesting that your late discovery of a principle of opposing a flat rate tax is just window dressing as you rush to catch up with the popular opposition to this authoritarian measure.

Huh?

I don't live in Manchester and didn't mention the flat tax bit as it wasn't really important to the overall argument I hoped to make. I don't know what you mean by "late discovery" and 'catching up'. None of this is new to me and I doubt it's new to the poster at Lenin's Tomb.

As far as commuting goes...

As I've mentioned before, I happen to enjoy owning a well made car which helps me get around. But there's a difference between enjoying driving and enjoying the daily commute to and from work. It should be completely uncontroversial to say that many people do not like the experience, even if they like their vehicle's smooth ride and MP3 ready stereo.

Listen James, I know you go on full alert when this topic comes up and rush to the defense of autos, roads, house construction and related things. As I recall, you also have your doubts about climate change. You're so ready to attack you seem to not notice when people are mostly on your side of an argument.

Instead of leaping into the arena with sword at the ready, wouldn't it have been better to acknowledge points of agreement, note areas of disagreement and suggest your book as another view on the matter without the unnecessary roughness?
