I believe that the cooler heads in the Republican party(such as they are), will be grateful for the chance to blame McCain/Palin for the loss and walk away from the financial mess, leaving the Democrats to clean up. Any rabid right-wing elements that would steal the election will have trouble manipulating the results of an election that isn't really going to be that close.

Large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress will make this difficult for all but the craziest right wing radio hosts.
