My 18-year-old prefers the classics to contemporary music. And this has 
nothing to do with me. She merely believes that since most of today's output 
is derivative and imitative, why not listen to the originals?

Patsy Cline instead of Taylor Swift.

The Clash instead of Green Day.

Public Enemy instead of 50 Cent.

Velvet Underground over anybody.

Jimi Hendrix instead of The Beatles.

Yes -- she even distinguishes b/w period bands.
