Until this thread I had no notion that Chomsky had ever said a word on
the topic of the 'evolution' or 'origin' of language anymore than he had
written on the mating habits of unicorns, so my views owe nothing to his
authority.  I shall read with interest anything further you have to say
on the topic, now or next winter, but until then I see no reason not to
assume that the origin of language is a topic for chat, not a serious
question.
