According to that infallible scholarly source wikipedia, belly dancing has nothing to do with femininity or gays or whatever at all. It's just a gender-neutral folk dance form, like line-dancing.

Check out the documentary Jihad for Love, a very interesting film on Islamic repression of gay/lesbians, and has a segment with an Egyptian gay man, exiled in France, doing "belly dancing".
