New Yorkers' Most Private Moments? Not So Private Updated: 1 day ago

(Feb. 12) -- In New York City, even the sex is louder. A recent survey by BrickUnderground.com, a site for homeowners, found that nearly 70 percent of New Yorkers have heard their neighbors having sex.

And a surprising amount of them are not registering complaints about it. While most surveyed said they'd rather not be subjected to their neighbors' carnal sounds, only 14 percent ever tried to stop them.

Why not? "I would be afraid they might complain about me," one woman told BrickUnderground.

"What this shows is if you live in New York City, you don't need to worry about keeping quiet in bed on Valentine's Day because the chances are slim that someone is going to complain," BrickUnderground founder Teri Karush Rogers told The New York Post.

The most-heard soundtrack? "Thumping (60%), moaning (56%), screaming (28%) and 'other' (23%)," BrickUnderground reports.

The survey also said that a full fifth of those surveyed said it actually turned them on.

Not everyone, however, is so excited. One frustrated New Yorker took her complaints to a Brooklyn blog instead of the authorities. "I heard everything!" she wrote. "I hate to be a buzzkill but if they really feel the need to explore their sexual needs in public they should at least try to keep it on the low. My building is very old I hear every footstep on the roof and in the hallways."

What do New Yorkers do if they can't stand the heat? Some may call 311, the city's helpline. The New York Post reports that 35,274 of last year's noise complaints described "banging or pounding" sounds.
