UPDATE: WE DID IT!

Dept. Attorney General Jeff Cox is now Former Dept. Attorney General Jeff Cox and no longer is part of the Indiana AG's office.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon (2/23), the Attorney General's office said, "Civility and courtesy toward all members of the public are very important to the Indiana Attorney General's Office. We respect individuals' First Amendment right to express their personal views on private online forums, but as public servants we are held by the public to a higher standard, and we should strive for civility."

While these results came so quickly that we never had the chance to deliver these petitions to Indiana -- only several hours since our press release and petition were launched -- the overwhelming and immediate response of our activists was a focal point of our efforts to keep pressure on Indiana officials.

THANK YOU. And feel free to add your name to petition anyway just so we know you were with us in this call to action. Call for Indiana Deputy Attorney General Jeff Cox’s Immediate Firing

A deputy attorney general in Indiana on Saturday suggested on Twitter to “use live ammunition” against protesters in Madison, Wisconsin. In a back-and-forth with a writer for Mother Jones magazine, he followed up, "You're damned right I advocate deadly force."

He’s got to go.

Dear Gov. Daniels and AG Zoeller,

Indiana Deputy Attorney General Jeff Cox suggested on Twitter to “use live ammunition” against protesters in Madison, Wisconsin. In a back-and-forth with a writer for Mother Jones magazine, he followed up, "You're damned right I advocate deadly force."

A public official calling for the shooting of peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights is not just unacceptable, it’s terrifying. I demand that you call for the immediate resignation of Dept. AG Cox, and take all necessary steps to address this reckless call for violence.

Signed,
