The Economist recently ranked Pittsburgh one of the 25 most livable cities in the world. Today, a local paper reported that 90% of the city's young people are unfit for the military. Now, on the one hand, they won't be dying in wars or being subjected to the insanity of military life. But on the other, Pittsburgh's glaring inequality, ghastly racial disparities, poverty, obesity, youth unemployment, violence, and bad schools don't bide well for the futures of these young people.
