Music, Satire and Ecology Presented at Showcase / Benefit for NYC Radio Station WBAI-FM

Featuring Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Rorie Kelly, satirical songster Dave Lippman and ecologist Chris Williams

Saturday, November 19th * 1-4 p.m. Lafayette Grill, Tribeca, Downtown Manhattan

New York, N.Y. -- A rousing mix of music and political discussion will occur in a showcase/benefit for non-commercial, listener-sponsored NYC radio station WBAI 99.5 FM, on Saturday, November 19th at 1 p.m. The event will feature Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Rorie Kelly, satirical songster Dave Lippman and ecology author Chris Williams.

Rorie Kelly writes catchy, melodic rock songs that she plays with enough passion to break guitar strings--and go right on playing without batting an eye. The singer/songwriter has been compared to artists ranging from Fiona Apple to Janis Joplin to Liz Phair. Patch.com wrote:

The 26-year-old is a crimson-haired indie siren that is as unabashed about championing political causes she believes in - vegetarianism and combating racism and sexism - as she is about getting on stage, with or without her band, More of the Mess, and offering up her confessional lyrics with fearlessness, ferociousness and vulnerability, while not being afraid to break a few guitar strings — or stereotypes — in the process. When not performing, she also volunteers as a hotline counselor at Long Island Crisis Center.

Dave Lippman has had a 35 year career performing comedy and music throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, and Central America.

Chris Williams' recent book Ecology and Socialism argues that time still remains to save humanity and the planet, but only by building social movements for environmental justice that can demand qualitative changes in our economy, workplaces, and infrastructure.

This unique combination of performers and personalities will offer a thought-provoking and entertaining event to benefit WBAI-FM.
