The problem is simply that, for many, it's so much more satisfying, apparently, to "know" in advance the salient dimensions of unfolding events. It's like skeet-shooting the owl of Minerva from the back of your pickup truck, with a half-finished twelve-pack of PBR on the passenger-side floor.
